Have you ever noticed that sports tend to bring out the worst in people?  It never ceases to amaze me that someone can be so mild- mannered and caring off the field, but as soon as they start playing, they become a totally different person.

I referee adult league soccer games on Friday nights for my dad, and I like it because it is a good way to get some exercise, I have a lot of friends to talk with, and the pay isn't too bad either. :)  The one thing I dislike the most though is the verbal abuse the other referees and I have to put up with on a semi- regular basis.  Tonight for example, I "failed" to call what this lady thought was tripping, and she proceeded to chew me out and cuss at me.  This is where I need to put on my poker face and simply nod and smile.  I am ashamed to say that sometimes I am filled with the urge to come up with some witty comeback, and I've come close to arguing right back.  But that wouldn't accomplish anything, and it would make the situation worse.  What bothers me the most is that this lady walked over to the sidelines where her little kids were waiting, and she immediately returned to the caring and loving mom that she is off the field.

On a better note, I renewed my teacher contract today, so that's taken care of for the next six years.  Can you believe it???  I will have been teaching for 8 years by the times I need to renew my license!  Crazy!  I also cleared some things up with a friend, and it feels amazing.  I feel like a weight has been lifted, and I feel a sense of peace.  Praise God for that!
